I loved the location of the hotel and the city of Versailles. We tried to eat at the restaurant but on two different nights the kitchen was already closed, one of which was our last night in France before heading back to the States. However, the bar was still open on our last night so we decided to have a couple of drinks. Last call was announced and our glasses were not empty but we asked if we could have one last drink (a glass of wine & a crown & 7) to take to our room but we were turned down by our bar tender. However, the other bar tender was pouring tequila shots for a single female with three men which seems a lot more riskier than a married couple going up to their room to pack.

I have been twice before over the years, It's a very expensive suburb of Paris now and an interesting town which revolves around the Chateau. The Chateau is a place you must visit once in your life at least, and allow a full day or more as the grounds are huge. It's a commercial tourist trap, long queues and not enough people selling tickets though all staff are very friendly and helpful. I would have bought online but couldn't fathom the headset guide, you could add it then it disappeared at checkout. Turns out you can't and don't need to pre-order, they are available after ticket check at a desk in the entrance, no queue. You can buy tickets from Tourist Information (they have an allocation) to beat the queues. Don't take a very expensive tour, the audio gives the same information and there are plenty of signs to stop you getting lost. Fantastic place but more or less just a portrait gallery and heaven for lovers of architecture. Just stand there and wonder at the scale, opulence and grandeur of the place. Not much catering, just essentials but the catering staff will refill a water bottle for you free if you ask nicely (a bit of French is handy). Be prepared to get your elbows out as although access is limited there are a lot of people inside, be prepared to wait for pictures and be tolerant of the bored and ignorant being dragged around! Book one of the local hotels, we used the Ibis, a 5 minute walk and used a restaurant on Rue de Satory which has a good selection and just outside the gates.

Fantastic trip.
Fantastic trip. It had been on my bucket list for a long time and did not disappoint. Mercure hôtel exceptionally welcoming. Excellent breakfast.
Would definitely recommend.
The palace is of course the main reason to go to Versailles but I don’t advise visiting the inside on a Sunday. It was packed to the rafters and at time uncomfortably so.
But hey ho! I loved it all. Enjoy your trip…

Versailles is not a welcoming place for visitors.
Versailles is not a welcoming place for visitors. No taxi service, The train tour of the palace is a rip off. They make you stand in the hot sun while the entire crew of drivers take a long break for lunch. If you get off there is a long wait time before you can get a spot on another train. Large tour groups block passage to many exhibits. Signage throughout the gardens and some displays is very poor and non existent in many places. A real disappointment. The hotel staff and restaurants were all good and made our time spent with them very enjoyable.

Versaille is an excellent base for a stay in Paris away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, there was a great selection of local restaurants and a good evening vibe over the weekend.
We especially enjoyed visiting the local market which is open most days and felt it was a very safe area to wander around during the evening so ideal for lone travellers unsure where to stay in Paris. We also took the local RER train into central Paris which was easy to use and reasonably priced with a journey time of approx 40 mins, looking forward to returning to the area in the near future.

Beautiful town!
Beautiful town!
If you are visiting the palace I recommend hiring one of the golf buggies to see the gardens, you need your driving licence with you, €38/hour and €9.50 per extra 10 mins. We took our time going round, stopped at a few places for fresh squeezed orange juice (they have little carts at various locations) and paid a total of €57 which we felt was good value, everyone felt it was a real highlight, having the independence, and you also have a guide talking to you as you go round on a recording in the vehicle.
Everything!! It was a perfect location, close to versailles Palace and Rive Gauche Station. Clean and tidy rooms, made up daily if required. Breakfast was fantastic with homemade cake and jams, plenty of tea and coffee, cheese and ham, mini croissants and pain au chocolat. Definitely good value. Friendly staff, very helpful. Stayed in a double , double bed room perfect for the 3 of us. Fan available if needed. Close to supermarkets, bakery shops, and restaurants. Well done the Royal Hotel !!
Lovely central location just some minutes walk from the castle, right next to a beautiful park and commerce, restaurants etc. Super clean flat, great Wifi for online work, easy to get the flat key and fast, friendly communication with the host. We loved that it was possible to open the back door towards the backyard with its plants. If you arrive via RER train from Paris, you can take a bus at the station "Versailles Chantiers" with bus stop at 100 m from the flat.
Great location, 5-10 min walk from both train stations and 15 min walk from the palace of Versailles. The room was modern, clean, and quiet. Not huge but perfectly reasonable - bed, wardrobe with safe, desk and chair. Generous windows with soundproofing and blackout curtains. Bathroom with shower (no bath). Minimal extra hotel facilities, from what I could see, but perfect for my overnight stay to visit the palace.
The first choice for accommodation in the Palace of Versailles is very close. Everything in the hotel makes us who have just arrived in France eliminate all our fatigue. It is worth more than five stars. The restaurant's cuisine is super amazing and delicious. The bed in the room is easy to sleep, the bathroom equipment and toiletries are very comfortable, and the overall design atmosphere is great!
The location was wonderful, very close to the Palace of Versailles and city centre. Parking was great and we scored a free parking spot directly outside the hotel on the street, with small children it was so convenient. The on-site restaurant was convenient too plus the staff spoke excellent English and were very accommodating. It was a great stay for the price of the room.
Working for the US government I make it a point to stay at your facility in Versailles, despite having to travel quite a distance to get to our Headquarters/Office at Capital 8, 32 Rue de Monceau, 75008 Paris. This time I came with my family.
Enjoyed everything, room, comfy bed, b'fast as well as the bar and proximity to various Restaurants, stores etc.
This listing is a scam and the company took my money and gave me wrong check-in information. I was left at 2:00am in Versailles (no one around) trying to enter the apartment with no correct instructions, after a while I received a message from them asking me to book another hotel and they still charged me in full even though I did not stay there.
Our room was beautifully decorated and was a really good size-we did pay for an upgraded room. Really big comfy bed and very peaceful
It was less than a 5 minute walk to the Palace of Versailles which is where we visited, with numerous restaurants within walking distance as was the town
Incredible location, would be hard to beat how central to everything this is. Extremely clean, the rooms and dishes were all spotless, host was responsive and very easy to work with, will definitely recommend to anyone looking for an wonderful place to stay in the center of Versailles !
right from arriving to departing everyone at the hotel was super friendly and helpful
located a short walk from Versailles palace complex we were able to explore on foot and leave our car safely tucked away in the hotel parking
It was a great value compared to other facilities nearby or in Paris. The close location to Château de Versailles is also one of the strong points of this facility. It was a bit old but kept clean.
Well located, clean and comfortable. Nicely recently decorated, cozy bed and well appointed kitchen. Minutes from Versailles, Paris metro and 30 minute walk to train. Lovely and well priced
For visiting the palace of Versailles, you couldn't ask for a better location. The hotel is a stone's throw from the gates.
The room was beautiful and remarkably large for the location.
Hotel in general was clean. Breakfast was very nice. Plenty of choice. Close proximity to the palace, Versailles was nice to walk round plenty of nice food and drinks.
